What is the relationship between the Jade Emperor and Nuwa?

To be precise, there is not much relationship between the Jade Emperor and Nuwa Empress due to the difference in time, but they are both important gods in Chinese myths and legends.

(1) Nuwa Empress

Nuwa’s status and identity destined her to be the predecessor of the Jade Emperor, and she belonged to the creation god. The main deeds are recorded in ancient books such as "The Classic of Mountains and Seas" and "Huainanzi" in previous periods.

For example, the so-called "Nu Wa's Intestine" is mentioned in "The Classic of Mountains and Seas". Guo Pu notes: "Nu Wa, an ancient goddess and emperor, has a human face and a snake body, and can change seventy times in one day." . ?"The Western Classic of the Great Wilderness"? There are ten gods named Nuwa Zhichang, who turned into gods and lived in the wilderness of Liguang. Across the street. ?

This is also the only record of Nuwa in the "Shan Hai Jing". There is no mention of any of Nuwa's two famous achievements: creating man and patching up the sky.

In "Huainanzi Lan Ming Xun", the whole process of Nuwa's mending the sky and saving the world is described in detail, which is extremely thrilling. In ancient times, the four poles were ruined, the nine states were divided, the sky was not covered, and the earth was not circulated; the fire was endless and the fire was endless, the water was vast and the ocean was endless, ferocious beasts devoured the people, and birds of prey preyed on the old and the weak. So, Nuwa refined the five-color stones to mend the sky, cut off the Ao to stand up the four poles, killed the black dragon to help Jizhou, and accumulated reed ashes to stop the promiscuous water. The sky is replenished and the four poles are upright; the rivers are drying up and Jizhou is at peace; the cunning insects are dead and Zhuan's people are prosperous. ?

The story of Nuwa creating human beings may have occurred during the Eastern Han Dynasty. There is such a passage in Yingshao's "Customs" of the Eastern Han Dynasty. This is the original source of Nuwa's creation of human beings. ?As the saying goes, when the world was opened and there were no people, Nuwa rolled loess into the earth to make a human being. She was unable to provide the drama, so she led a rope into the mud and made a human being out of it. Therefore, those who are rich and noble are also people from the loess soil, and those who are poor and humble are those who are ordinary people. ?

In the Taoist system, the ancient goddess Nuwa also occupies a place. Her identity became the third disciple of the founding Yuanling, and she was Xuankong Nuwa. So in this regard, her status is much more noble and ancient than that of the late Jade Emperor.

(2) The Jade Emperor

The Jade Emperor is the emperor of the gods who is second only to the Three Qing Dynasties in the category of Taoism. As for the origin of the title "Jade Emperor", "A Study of the Similarities and Differences of the Jade Emperor's Holy Names" once explained: "The holy name of the Jade Emperor was revered before the tribulation of self-disaster. In the Middle Ages, the name of the Jade Emperor was reverenced to honor the names of the gods to determine the origin." title. ?

As for the origin of the Jade Emperor, there are generally two theories. The first theory is that the Jade Emperor was born from the crown prince of the Guangyan Miaole Kingdom. According to the content of "The Jade Emperor's Collection of Classics", a long time ago, there was a Guangyan Miao Le Kingdom. Because the king and queen had not given birth to children for a long time, they ordered Taoist priests to perform prayers. Later, the queen dreamed that Taishang Laojun gave her a baby, and when she woke up from the dream, she was pregnant. One year after she was pregnant, the queen gave birth to a son, who was named the prince.

Not long after the prince grew up and succeeded to the throne, he left the capital and went to Puming Xiangyan Mountain to practice Taoism. After that, he achieved salvation and went through three thousand tribulations before he became the Golden Immortal. After going through hundreds of millions of kalpas, he finally became the Jade Emperor.

The second theory is derived from the contents of the classical masterpiece "Journey to the West", that is: Buddha once said that the Jade Emperor practiced Taoism since childhood and experienced more than 1,700 catastrophes, each of which had twelve catastrophes. For more than nineteen thousand years, only in this way can we enjoy the infinite path. In addition, the book also mentions that when Laojun used the diamond set to capture Sun Wukong, he once said that he wanted to kidnap the Jade Emperor Zhang Dadi. It can be seen from this that the Jade Emperor mentioned in "Journey to the West" should be named Zhang.

So, judging from the situation of the Jade Emperor and Nuwa, if we have to say that there is a relationship between the two, it can only be the relationship between the senior and the junior.
