What are the interesting places in Tianjin?

Tianjin is a city where vulgarity and elegance coexist.

Tianjin used to be the center of the Westernization Movement, and later developed into a financial and trade center in the north, which was crowded with people of the Qing Dynasty, politicians of Beiyang, and China people and foreigners who came to Tianjin to start their own businesses and seek gold. Once upon a time, Tianjin was as foreign as Shanghai.

Now Tianjin's business cards are pancake fruit, cross talk, ancient cultural street, Tianjin Eye and Fifth Avenue.

Fifth Avenue

Today's five avenues are not limited to a few roads, but a rectangular area, named after five main roads in the area, namely Machang, Munan, Dali, Chongqing and Chengdu. In fact, there are 22 roads (Tianjin is called "Road" in the east-west direction and "Road" in the north-south direction). Its four boundaries are: north of Machang Road, south of Chengdu Road, east of Xikang Road and west of the intersection of Machang Road and Nanjing Road.

As a famous historical and cultural block in China, Fifth Avenue has more than 2,000 garden-style houses with different architectural styles in Britain, France, Italy, Germany, Spain and other countries built in the 1920s and 1930s. There are more than 300 famous buildings and celebrities. Up to now, it still maintains a quiet and unique street style, which contains rich cultural connotations and fully shows the century-old situation of modern China.

As the saying goes, "Beijing Siheyuan, Tianjin Xiaoyanglou". When it comes to Fifth Avenue in Tianjin, I have to mention it.

Xiaoyanglou culture

Tianjin Xiaoyanglou was born in 1860 when the British and French allied forces captured Dagukou. 1860, Tianjin opened for trade, and British, French and American concessions were successively designated on the west bank of Haihe River in Tianjin. 1894 After the Sino-Japanese War of 1894, the Japanese-German Concession was located on the left and right sides of the British-French-American Concession. 1900, Eight-Nation Alliance invaded China and occupied Tianjin, and Russia, Italy and Austria turned the area occupied by the east bank of Haihe River into a concession. Soon, Belgium turned a large area of land west of the Russian concession into a concession. The Jiuguo Concession is located on both sides of Haihe River, and according to their respective national styles and characteristics, they have built pieces of "countries within a country". This is the origin of Tianjin Xiaoyanglou.

It is said that Tianjin has a history of 100 years, and Fifth Avenue is the epitome of old Tianjin. What to see on Fifth Avenue? Look at all kinds of small foreign buildings and former residences of celebrities, from Prince Zaizhen of Qing Dynasty to President Xu Shichang of the Republic of China, President Hoover of the United States to General Zhang Zizhong of the Anti-Japanese War ... There are many celebrities you have heard of and former residences of celebrities you have never heard of, all of which have left footprints on Fifth Avenue. . .

Ma's former residence-"Ge Building"

The turret is the place where Ma, a famous Peking Opera performer, has lived for many years. Built in 1937, this building is a contiguous alley house with a strong Italian style. The outer wall of the attic is made of burnt bricks. After the burnt brick is fluidized, it naturally forms a little knot in one's heart, so Tianjin people call it "knot in one's heart building".

The facade treatment of the house follows the modern minimalist style, adopts Tianjin local materials, and has an unpretentious shape.

Gu Weijun was an outstanding diplomat in modern China. He served as foreign minister, finance minister and prime minister of Beiyang government, and later served as a multinational ambassador in the Republic of China government. Among them, the front terrace has western classical style, four groups of twisted rope columns stand on it, and the stigma is decorated with flowers. The inner and outer eaves at the top adopt arch windows, rectangular windows and other architectural forms, which are typical eclectic western-style buildings. Later, this building was mainly used as Sun Dianying's Tianjin office. He mainly deals in treasures, drugs, arms and other businesses here.

Yuen long

Yuen Long is a European-style villa on Fifth Avenue, with blue-gray brick walls and a red pointed roof. Yuen Long has two floors, a basement and an attic. Through the changes of Yuen Long, the contrast of different classes and the unequal distribution of wealth, the play shows the changes and customs of Tianjin in the first half of the 20th century.
