Deciduous tree, up to 14 meters high. The old bark is dark black and deeply cracked into square shapes; the young branches are gray-green and pubescent. Single leaves are alternate, oval to oblong, 6 to 12 cm long, 3.5 to 5.5 meters wide, with a pointed apex, a rounded to broadly wedge-shaped base, dark green above, densely pubescent at first, then gradually falling off, and almost white below. , hairy at least on the veins; petioles 5 to 25 mm long.
