The origin of Xuchang Spring and Autumn Building

To the north of the Spring and Autumn Square in Xuchang City, there is a house with a plaque on the lintel, which reads "Guanzhai", also known as the Spring and Autumn Building, named after Guan Yu, a famous star of the Three Kingdoms, who read Spring and Autumn at this night. It is one of the ten scenic spots in Xuchang.

According to the Records of the Three Kingdoms and Shu Shu: "In the fifth year of Jian 'an (AD 200), Cao Gong made an expedition to the east, and the first owner returned to Yuan Shao. When he returned to China, he worshipped him as a partial general, with great courtesy. Legend has it that Guan Yu joined Cao Ying in order to protect Liu Fen's second wife, Gan Mi, after his defeat. In the first place of Cao Ciyu's house, in order to avoid suspicion, the house was divided into two. Two emperors lived in the inner court and the rest in the outer court. Greet her in the morning and evening, read Spring and Autumn at night, and talk beautifully. In order to show Guan Yu's loyalty, later generations built a temple to worship him. The first floor of the temple is called "Spring and Autumn Building", commonly known as "holding a candle to the top".
