Historical situation
Suzhou Library was founded in 19 14, which was established on the basis of Zhengyi Academy in the late Qing Dynasty. It was once the "Second Library of Jiangsu Province" and one of the earliest public libraries in China. At that time, there were over 70,000 copies and over 26,000 copies. The museum is located in Keyuan, opposite Canglang Pavilion, a famous garden in the Song Dynasty in the south of the city. 1925 moved to the west of Humble Administrator's Garden in Northeast Street. 1929 was renamed as "Suzhou Library, Jiangsu Province". By 1949, there are nearly100000 books. 1956 was renamed "Suzhou Library" and placed under the Suzhou Municipal Bureau of Culture. /kloc-moved to park road in 0/958, and 1972 and 1982 were expanded twice. 1990, built in Xiangwanglong, with a total construction area of 6350 square meters. New building construction
1September 5, 1998, the municipal party Committee and the municipal government formally decided to build a new library, and the address was chosen in the courtyard of the former Municipal People's Congress and the municipal government on Renmin Road. The plot covers an area of 1.6 million square meters, with convenient transportation and quiet in the middle. There are modern garden buildings "Tianxiang Zhu Xiao", white walls and tiles, ancient trees and green cages, birds and flowers. It is an ideal place to build a garden-style library. The new building has a total construction area of about 25,000 square meters and a total investment of1.1.200 million yuan. The foundation stone was laid in June 1999, completed in June 2006 at 5438+0, and officially opened to the outside world. The construction of the new library fully embodies the intelligent facility management system of modern library, rich cultural atmosphere and architectural style in harmony with the style of the ancient city. The architectural modeling is simple, lively and solemn, and the buildings are patchwork and reasonable in layout, which makes the original garden layout of Tianxiang Xiaolou integrate with the new building and become a cultural landmark project with distinctive local characteristics and garden style in the ancient city.
Composition of new buildings
The overall layout of the new museum is divided into three areas: north, middle and south. The main building in the North District is a literature reading area with a building area of about15000m2. There is a Little Square on the west side of the main building along Renmin Road for readers to gather and distribute. Entering the main building is a spacious and bright hall. The main building is equipped with various reading rooms, computer information centers, science and technology information centers, stacks, administrative offices and computer rooms. The central area is a VIP building with the theme of "Tianxiang Zhu Xiao", an ancient literature reading area and an ancient book museum. The architectural style of the Ancient Books Department is consistent with that of "Tianxiang Zhu Xiao". The cloister connects the main building in the north area and the knowledge square in the south area. On one side of Renmin Road, a 60-meter-long breathable corridor is combined with the green belt and isolated from the bustling street view. The gallery displays the aphorisms of academicians of Suzhou Academy of Sciences. On the east side of Zhangsiliang Lane, there is a classical garden-like corridor, which displays the paintings and calligraphy works of Suzhou celebrities in past dynasties. It is a patriotic education base that fully embodies Suzhou's rich humanities, talented people and cultural prosperity. The southern district is an education and training area, with a knowledge square of more than 2,400 square meters. The stacked stones are mountains and the carved stones are water. There are academic lecture halls, exhibition halls, social education and training centers and children's halls around. It is an ideal place for academic activities, study, fitness and entertainment. The whole new museum is hidden in the green bushes, the lawns are intertwined and the flowers are in full bloom, which adds a pleasing and culturally rich new landscape to the ancient city of Suzhou.
The new library is designed to contain 2 million volumes (pieces) and 1000 reading seats.
The new Suzhou Library is an important landmark project for Suzhou's historical and cultural city to enter the 2 1 century.
