Initially, it was only planted in coastal provinces. So, how did peanuts get their name? According to "Changshu County Records" 1503, "When planting in March, the vine was not very long, and the common cloud fell to the ground, but the son was born in the soil, hence the name." According to records, the earliest introduced peanut is small seed peanut, with thin shell, small precocious grains and high oil content. About 100 years later, another kind of big peanut, also called foreign peanut, was introduced, which was divided into two types: upright type and creeping type. Because this kind of large peanut has spread all over the coastal areas of Shandong, it has been gradually popularized in the Yellow River and Yangtze River basins. At present, China is one of the countries with the largest peanut planting area in the world, with an area of more than 27 million mu. China's peanuts are exported to foreign countries, enjoying a high reputation in the international market, and are known as "China Nuts".
