Characteristics of the medicinal parts used by Xu Changqing: The rhizome of this product is irregular columnar with disc segments, 0.5 to 3.5cm long and 2 to 4mm in diameter. Some have residual stems at the top, which are thin and cylindrical, about 2cm long, 1-2mm in diameter, and hollow in cross-section; there are many roots growing around the rhizome nodes. The root is slender and cylindrical, curved, 10-16cm long and 1-1.5mm in diameter. The surface is light yellowish white to light brownish yellow or brown, with fine longitudinal wrinkles and slender fibrous roots. It is brittle, easy to break, floury when broken, the skin is off-white or yellow-white, the cambium ring is light brown, and the wood is small. Fragrant, slightly pungent and cool taste.
