The theory of food compatibility in traditional Chinese medicine

Food is similar, handed down from ancient Chinese medicine and originated from modern folk. On the one hand, the saying about the spread of ancient Chinese medicine is recognized by Chinese medicine experts, and it is well understood that food is incompatible with each other; On the other hand, it was refuted by some other Chinese medicine experts, saying that there has never been a saying that foods are incompatible with each other in the history of Chinese medicine, which our magazine can't verify and be realistic. According to the information, Professor Chen Yi, vice president of Zhejiang Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine, once introduced that Chinese medicine has a theory of "homology of medicine and food" since ancient times. Our ancestors left us "eighteen anti-songs" and "eighteen fear songs", which recorded eighteen kinds of food in turn. Since the food we usually eat is also medicine, of course, we should pay attention to collocation when eating.

According to the homology theory of medicine and food, each natural food has its own characteristics and tastes, which is called "four qi and five flavors" by Chinese medicine. "Qi" refers to medicinal properties, four qi refers to cold, hot, warm and cool, and five flavors refer to pungent, sweet, sour, bitter and salty. Different foods will have different effects when mixed together. For example, cold food with sweet food has the function of nourishing yin, while bitter cold with it has the function of clearing away heat and detoxifying.

The same is true for food. Some foods may have toxic reactions or side effects when eaten together. For ordinary people, some "enemy dishes" are passed down from mouth to mouth. But not all foods have serious consequences, and there are individual differences.

Some experts believe that for the general population, there are three situations in which real foods are compatible with each other: First, two foods repel each other in the process of absorption and metabolism. Second, two kinds of food will produce harmful substances during the decomposition process. Third, judging from the "four flavors and five flavors" of Chinese medicine food, people will fall down if they eat two cold foods together, and they will get angry if they eat too much hot food. Only eating four kinds of food together will not cause imbalance between cold and heat.
