International Standard Book Number (ISBN)
From the British Standard Book Number (SBN) of 1968 to today, the international standard book number has made remarkable achievements.
Within one year, the "ISBN standard" was transformed into the international standard ISBN, and the nine digits became 10 digits. Since ISBN 1970 was approved as ISO 2 108, the ISBN located in the National Library of Berlin has become the international coordinating body of ISBN.
The success of ISBN, along with the development and popularization of electronic publications, has enhanced people's understanding of the comprehensive inclusiveness of the 10 bit ISBN system. Therefore, the new EAN/ Bookland standard, which was revised as 13 bit identifier, is still inclusive after many years.
Although this is only an optional number, it has brought great convenience to human beings since the industry and ISBN bar code are almost household names. In addition, the international bar code standard EAN·UCC also announced its willingness to provide the prefix 13 EAN, thus effectively ensuring that the ISBN system will remain inclusive in the future.
