A rich family occasionally got two little wolves and mixed them with the domestic dog to feed them. Wolves and dogs live in peace.

From: Ji Xiaolan's Notes on Yuewei Caotang [Qing].

There is a rich room, and occasionally I get two little wolves to mix with the domestic dogs and get along well with them. It takes a little longer, but it is also quite tame. I forgot it was a wolf. One day in the bedroom, I heard the dog growling and woke up to find no one in the room.

Interpretation: There was a rich family who occasionally got two little wolves to live with their domestic dogs and live in peace with them. Although it is a little big, it is still very docile. I forgot it was a wolf. One day, lying in the living room, I heard a group of dogs whining and making angry cries. I woke up and looked around. No one was there.

Creation background

The creation of Yuewei Caotang Notes began at the end of 54th year in Qianlong, which lasted for ten years, and reached the third year of Jiaqing (1789- 1798). Ji Yun was about 66 to 76 years old.

17th century is an era of sharp class contradictions and ethnic contradictions in the history of China. The social conditions of great turmoil and great struggle are changing rapidly, which has effectively promoted the development of the ideological field. Under the influence of the progressive thoughts of his predecessors, Ji Yun advocated the truth of Chinese studies and despised the hypocrisy of Song studies.

In Ji Yun's view, this group of Taoist theories of "preserving righteousness and destroying human desires" regard human desires as evil, which is the greatest evil. In order to express his thoughts, Ji Yun began to satirize the hypocrisy of these hypocrites with words, and severely reprimanded and criticized this hypocrisy.

At the same time, China literature developed to the Qing Dynasty, and all writing patterns were formed, especially mystery novels. By the Qing Dynasty, a complete development system had been formed. In this context, on the one hand, Ji Yun absorbed the experience of predecessors, on the other hand, he opened up a new model on the basis of predecessors, combining inheritance and innovation to produce this work.

There are also some chapters in Yuewei Caotang Notes that describe princes and nobles, wealthy businessmen and bully landlords using their power to run amok. For example, in Volume 20, when a wealthy businessman saw someone else's bride was gorgeous and beautiful, he was born with evil thoughts, set a trap, stole the bride skillfully, and made her husband die of grief and depression. The author fully exposed the sinister means of wealthy businessmen and the evil forces supported by money.

The fourth volume, after a businessman became rich, refused to help an old man who had lived for more than ten years and funded him to become rich in business. Rich and ungrateful, he was detained by a warlock named Yang and returned to the old man. These chapters fully revealed the extremely sharp social contradictions at that time and exposed the moral decay of these people; They are dissolute and shameless, mercenary, decadent and ugly, and completely ignored.
