Yuanming sanyuan
1860 10 6 18, the British and French allied forces began to burn the world-famous imperial garden of the Qing dynasty-Yuanmingyuan.
Yuanmingyuan was built in 48 years of Kangxi, and it took 150 years to finish it. It consists of Yuanmingyuan, Changchun Garden and Wanshou Park. In its heyday, it was also called Five Gardens and Three Mountains. Xichun Garden is located in the southeast of Changchun Garden (now west of Tsinghua University Campus). It was built in the reign of Kangxi and merged in the reign of Qianlong. Xichun Academy, located in the north of Peking University campus, was originally named Shuchun Garden, and later merged with Qianlong, so it was called Wuyuan Garden. Sanshan refers to Qingyi Garden in Wanshou Mountain (now Summer Palace), Jingming Garden in Yuquan Mountain and Jingyi Garden in Xiangshan Mountain. It is more than ten kilometers long and is known as the "Garden of Ten Thousand Gardens".
Yuanmingyuan consists of Yuanmingyuan, Changchun Garden and Qichun Garden (also called Wanchun Garden). These three gardens are close to each other, and people are used to calling them Yuanmingyuan Garden.
Yuanmingyuan, located in the eastern part of Haidian District in the western suburbs, is a famous royal garden built in the heyday of the Qing Dynasty, which lasted 150 years. Emperors Yongzheng, Qianlong, Jiaqing, Daoguang, Xianfeng, etc. all lived in Yuanmingyuan for many years, where they held court meetings to deal with state affairs. Together with the Forbidden City, it was the political center of the country at that time, so it was a veritable "imperial garden".
Yuanmingyuan * * covers an area of more than 5200 mu (about 350 hectares), which is nearly 1000 mu larger than the whole Summer Palace. The park is a collection of China's famous scenic spots and product essence, and has a large collection of cultural relics and ancient books. The buildings in the park are a blend of foreign western styles. The former Yuanmingyuan can be compared with the pyramids in Egypt, Notre Dame de Paris and the Colosseum in Rome.
1860 (the tenth year of Xianfeng in Qing dynasty), Yuanmingyuan was looted and burned by British and French allied forces, and was repeatedly subjected to war.
Now Yuanmingyuan is a ruined garden. There are newly renovated pavilions, water tours and an exhibition hall near the remains of stone carvings in Xiyanglou.
