Since his youth, he has actively assisted Mr. Yu Youren in the research and editing of standard cursive script. At the same time, he was directly taught by the master, taught in person, read dharma books, and worked diligently and tirelessly for thirteen years. Therefore, he greatly improved his learning and calligraphy skills, gained the charm of Yu Xiansheng's pen and ink, and was very rich in "calligraphy".
In the practice of calligraphy art, Hu Gongshi is famous for cursive script, especially cursive script. The main features of his cursive script are: strict statutes, combining strength with beauty, grasping quality and freedom at the bottom of the wrist, seeing beauty when it is concentrated, and having the realm of "autumn wind and iron horses, apricot flowers in the south of the Yangtze River". After the age of 60, cursive script became more vivid and fluent, and won two victories in rhyme. In addition to participating in national and international large-scale exhibitions, his works have also held personal calligraphy art exhibitions and Chinese and foreign cursive exhibitions in Yinchuan, Lanzhou, Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing and Hangzhou. In his later years, he held a joint exhibition of Mr. Yu Youren's calligraphy and standard cursive script in Beijing, Nanjing and Hangzhou with younger brothers such as Li Putong from Taiwan Province Province and Japanese educated youth Kanazawa. His calligraphy has always been valued by collectors and units at home and abroad. Many works have been collected by Zhongnanhai, Great Hall of the People, Chairman Mao Memorial Hall, China Art Museum, Chinese History Museum, Taiwan Palace Museum and other units as well as domestic and foreign painting and calligraphy lovers. It has far-reaching influence and is widely praised.
Hu Gongshi's research on cursive brushwork is remarkable and fruitful. As early as the early 1930s, under the leadership of Mr. Yu Youren, he, like Liu Yantao, assisted Yu Xiansheng to collect calligraphy posts and treatises of cursive writers of past dynasties extensively, and devoted himself to research. Based on the principle of "easy to recognize, easy to write, accurate and beautiful", he collated and compared all kinds of cursive scripts, selected standard cursive characters, shaped cursive scripts with indefinite shapes, established representative symbols of cursive scripts and summarized the rules of cursive scripts. It opened up a bright road for the development of cursive art and made an epoch-making contribution to the history of China writing.
Over the past 70 years, the appearance of standard cursive script has had a far-reaching impact on the development of calligraphy art, which is well-known in China and spread far and wide to Japan, Southeast Asia, Europe and America. 1959, in order to study the cursive art, President Mao Zedong wrote to his secretary, Tian Jiaying, asking to arrange various cursive copybook for him, "including some rubbings (Wang Xizhi, etc.). ), a thousand words in Yu Youren and Song of the Grass. When talking with his daughter Li Ne about learning calligraphy, the Chairman especially praised Yu Youren's cursive script, saying that his "standard cursive script" was very meaningful, with good handwriting and great strength. If you want to learn cursive script, you must learn standard cursive script, which can be used as an introduction to cursive script. The cursive script of various dictionaries compiled in Japan adopts standard cursive script, and more and more people in Japan learn standard cursive script. In Chinese bookstores in Los Angeles, San Francisco and other cities in the United States, standard cursive scripts are snapped up as soon as they arrive, which is often in short supply.
Time flies, personnel vicissitudes. After the founding of New China, although Hu Gongshi lived on both sides of the Taiwan Strait with Mr. Yu Youren and his fellow friends who were engaged in standard cursive script, he became more and more attached to and devoted to standard cursive script. In order to inherit and develop the standardized cursive script initiated by Mr. Yu Youren, Hu Gongshi bravely undertook the important task of sorting out, creating and popularizing cursive script. Even in the turbulent years of the Cultural Revolution, under the condition of constant criticism and "review", he still devoted himself to the study of standard cursive script, inherited the unfinished business of his predecessor, and tried to "open up a new road for future cursive script" as Yu Xiansheng pointed out.
1June, 984, with the cordial care and strong support of the United Front Work Department of the Central Committee, Hu Gongshi and Wu Qu, former vice chairman of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, re-established the China Standard Cursive Society and served as its president. He actively organized and mobilized colleagues and friends who were interested in standardizing cursive script, engaged in the research and promotion of standardizing cursive script, strengthened academic exchanges with Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Thailand, the United States, France, Taiwan Province Province, Hong Kong and Macao, and created a new situation of standardizing cursive script. At the same time, Mr. Hu Gongshi has accumulated many years of research results, and based on Mr. Yu Youren's Standard Cursive Words (more than a thousand words), he compiled the Standard Cursive Words, which was officially published on the 20th anniversary of his death.
The glossary contains more than 6,000 commonly used Chinese characters, which greatly enriches the contents of Thousand Characters and basically meets the needs of daily commonly used Chinese characters. In terms of symbols, not only the representative symbols are supplemented and improved (that is, from 74 to 965,438+0, and the radicals are increased from 339 to 385), but also individual symbols are put forward for the first time, which makes the standardization and standardization of Chinese characters more complete and basically covers all commonly used Chinese characters. Therefore, the brushwork of cursive art can be disordered, simplified, difficult and unified. It makes cursive script from illusory to practical, does not violate the principle of calligraphy beauty, is more practical and easy to popularize, and has made great contributions to standardizing the inheritance and development of cursive script.
At the end of 1994, Hu Gongshi personally invited Mr. Yu Youren's classmates Wan Renyuan, Li Putong and Kanazawa educated youth at home and abroad to edit and publish "Mr. Yu Youren's Notes" and 1995 personally wrote and published "Hu Gongshi Standardized Cursive Thousand Characters". During his tenure as president, he also organized the World China Cursive Calligraphy Exhibition, Mr. Yu Youren's Calligraphy Joint Exhibition and the Sino-Japanese Standard Cursive Calligraphy Joint Exhibition.
