Liezi (Lieyukou, about 450 BC-about 375 BC) was born in Putian (now Zhengzhou, Henan Province) in the Eastern Zhou Dynasty. He was a famous thinker, philosopher, writer and educator in the Eastern Zhou Dynasty, an outstanding representative of the Taoist school and one of the top ten in the pre-Qin world. He was regarded as a "empty real person" and founded the pre-Qin school of philosophy (Liezixue).

He is an important successor of Taoist school between Laozi and Zhuangzi. He wrote 20 books, and only 8 later generations compiled them.

Liezi is brilliant and easy-going. He thinks of loneliness, which is as vast as the wind in Feng Xu and as independent as the world.

Among the pre-Qin philosophers, Liezi is the most philosophical and enlightened one. Liezi's activity period should be around the middle and early period of the Warring States Period, at the same time as Zheng, later than Confucius and earlier than Zhuangzi. Liezi called his disciples to give lectures, and there were many disciples. On one occasion, Liezi chose "forty disciples to accompany him" when he visited Guo Zi, which showed that Liezi learned a lot later.
