The oldest existing cholera record occurred around 300 BC. Later, China in the 7th century and Java in 17th century also recorded vicious plagues that were considered as cholera, and the worldwide epidemic began at 18 17. At present, it is generally believed that the birthplace of cholera is in the lower reaches of Ganges River in Bangladesh, India and its border with Bangladesh. Cholera broke out in Kolkata on 18 17 and spread throughout Asia and Africa until 1823.
