According to the person in charge, at present, family doctors in China mainly include registered general practitioners (including assistant general practitioners and Chinese general practitioners) in primary health care institutions, as well as competent doctors and rural doctors in township hospitals. Actively guide qualified doctors in public hospitals and retired clinicians with intermediate titles or above, especially physicians in internal medicine, gynecology, pediatrics and traditional Chinese medicine, to provide contract services at the grassroots level as family doctors. Family doctors are not private doctors. In principle, contract service is mainly based on team service. The team of family doctors includes family doctors, community nurses and public health doctors. Doctors in hospitals above the second level provide technical support and professional guidance.
The person in charge pointed out that at present, China's medical and health undertakings are facing many challenges such as aging population, urbanization and high incidence of chronic diseases. The medical and health service model centered on hospitals and diseases is difficult to meet the long-term and sustained health care needs of the people. At the same time, the concentration of residents in large hospitals is not conducive to improving the medical environment, balancing medical resources and controlling medical expenses reasonably. International experience and domestic practice have proved that promoting family doctor contract service is an important way to protect and safeguard people's health and an important measure to facilitate people's medical treatment. Providing long-term contract service for the people is conducive to changing the medical and health service model, allowing the people to have health gatekeepers and constantly improving the health level of the people.
