Why did Sun build Yuhai Building?

Because at that time, shortly after the Taiping Rebellion, a large number of cultural relics and ancient books of the families of the deceased in various provinces were scattered all over the place, so Sun Shi and his son searched for them at will. Sun once wrote in Jade Cang Shu: "I really don't want to be a treasure in the world." At that time, Yuhai Building was used as a library upstairs, and Sun Shi's engraved book was stored downstairs. Yu Hai Lou Ji is famous for the school-based criticism of famous scholars, the literature of European counties and towns, and the school-based criticism of Sun Shi and his son.

Of course, people can't see books now. In order to properly protect Yuhai Building, the government moved a large number of ancient books, calligraphy and paintings and cultural relics into the building to hide. On the platform of Yuhai Library, there is a carved stone banner of Yuhai Library written in regular script by Li Wentian, assistant minister of Ritual Department in Qing Dynasty. On the left and right sides of the stone couplet, there are eight vigorous and powerful Chinese characters, which were inscribed by Mr. Guo Moruo during his special visit to Yuhailou in 1964. These eight characters fully illustrate Mr. Sun Yirang's academic contribution and great achievements in running schools and educating people.

In front of Yuhai Square is the sculpture "Yuhai Yuzhu". With the simplest language and the most vivid and abstract expression, the sculpture skillfully combines shells, swells and pearls into a three-dimensional picture, revealing the connotation of "Jade is a peach and plum, and the swells are sky-high". The tidal waves in the sculpture are constantly pouring out, symbolizing the emergence of talents, and each generation is better than the next. At the same time, the sculpture pursues the artistic charm of sculpture with ethereal, smooth and cheerful lines and weak blocks. The whole sculpture is 8 meters high and made of stainless steel, which highlights the whiteness of the sculpture.
