Shaanxi Normal University, formerly known as Shaanxi Teachers College, was founded with the Department of Historical Geography 1944. From 65438 to 0954, the school was named Xi 'an Teachers College, and the history department was established independently, with Professor Shi Nianhai, a famous historical geographer, as the head of the department. 1960 Xi normal university and Shaanxi normal university merged to form Shaanxi normal university, and the history department retained the original organizational system. In the mid-1980s, the Department of History established an independent research institute on historical geography, Tang Shi and ancient books collation. In 2000, the school reformed its management organization and adjusted its department system. The History Department, the Institute of Tang History and the Institute of Ancient Books Arrangement merged to form the School of History and Culture.
According to relevant data, the college has eight research institutions, including the Department of History, the Department of Culture and Art, and the Cultural Research Center of Zhou, Qin, Han and Tang Dynasties. In addition, it has a history and art museum and a reference room.
