There is no following sentence.
In the fifty-sixth chapter, Tan Chun said that there was a saying in Ji Zi that day:' Those who climb the field of Lilu and are in the field of logistics are the words of Yao and Shun, and they recite the way of Confucius and Mencius.' Baochai said with a smile, "What's the next sentence?" Tanchun said with a smile, "Now I just read the next sentence out of context. Why don't I scold myself?"
Interpretation: Entering the officialdom, you are in a world of strategizing. Stealing what Yao and Shun said is against Confucius and Mencius' theory.
Extended information
This sentence is extracted from A Dream of Red Mansions, and said by Jia Tanchun. Tan Chun said: "On that day, there was a saying in Ji Zi:' Those who climb the field of Lilu and are in the field of logistics steal the words of Yao and Shun from the left and recite the way of Confucius and Mencius from the right.' "I finally understand why many people in ancient times always worship the ancients and hold ancient books.
The Appreciation Dictionary of A Dream of Red Mansions, published by Shanghai Ancient Books Publishing House in May 1988, said under the entry of "Ji Zi" that "Ji Zi" was Cao Xueqin's fictitious title, and the passage "Ji Zi" quoted by Tan Chun was probably written by Cao Xueqin to satirize the world. However, there are many ancient books in China. We didn't live in Cao Xueqin's time, and ancient books may not be read as much as Cao Xueqin's. Who can say that there is no such book as Ji Zi in ancient China? This is what Tanchun said in the Red Chamber, and the bottom sentence is "Make it powerful, take advantage of it, and never do its duty again". It is intended to satirize the dark reality of officialdom in the society at that time and the people with rigid feudal thoughts and full of benevolence and morality.
