What do the five classics and four books of Chinese classics refer to?

The four books and five classics are collectively called the four books and five classics, which are Confucian classics.

The Four Books began in Song Dynasty, and the Five Classics began in Emperor Wu of Han Dynasty.

The four books refer to The Doctrine of the Mean, The University, Mencius and The Analects of Confucius.

The Five Classics refer to The Book of Songs, The Book of Rites, Zhouyi, Chunqiu and Shangshu.

The Book of Rites includes Zhou Li, Yi Li and Li Ji.

Because the text of Chunqiu is too brief, it is usually published together with Zuo Zhuan, Gu Liangzhuan and Yang Gongzhuan.
