Three cultural and educational policies are the cultural and educational policy suggestions put forward by Dong Zhongshu in the Western Han Dynasty to Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty, including: ousting a hundred schools of thought, respecting Confucianism alone, and realizing ideological unity; Carry forward imperial academy and practice the wind of educating beauty; Re-election and talent selection.
Dong Zhongshu's three suggestions met the needs of political, economic, cultural and educational development at that time, and were adopted by Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty, which promoted the unification of ideas and the development of cultural education in the Han Dynasty, ended the phenomenon of a hundred schools of thought contending since the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, and had a far-reaching impact on ideological and cultural education in China.
Dong Zhongshu demonstrated the unique superiority of Confucianism in feudal politics, and put forward the suggestion of "promoting Confucianism and restraining a hundred schools", encouraging the development of Confucianism and adopting an exclusive attitude towards other schools, so as to achieve the purpose of unifying thoughts with Confucianism.
In order to ensure a high degree of unity of the state's ruling ideology and change the situation of the shortage of ruling talents, Dong Zhongshu proposed the establishment of imperial academy, in which the government directly manipulated the educational power and decided the training objectives of talents, which was also one of the important means to sort out the academics and carry forward Confucianism.
Dong Zhongshu put forward the idea of strengthening the selection and rational appointment of talents in view of the disadvantages of the selection and use of talents in the early Han Dynasty. According to Dong Zhongshu's three suggestions, Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty took three measures successively: establishing a doctor of the Five Classics; Open a business school; With the complete establishment of the procuratorial system, these three cultural and educational policies can be regarded as the concretization of Dong Zhongshu's political thought.
