1978, the first independent library of Inner Mongolia University was completed, covering an area of 5,400 square meters. At this time, the collection of books has reached more than 600,000 volumes and there are 46 staff members.
1989, the first phase of the new library of Inner Mongolia University was completed, covering an area of 5,600 square meters. At this time, the total area of the library is 1 and 1 10,000 square meters, with 4 cashier rooms and 16 reading rooms, with 1300 reading seats, one million books and 93 staff.
1997 was listed as one of the 100 universities under the national "21/project". 1998, the library adopted the international and domestic standardized description format, and independently built the Chinese, English and Mongolian bibliographic databases, especially the characteristic database of Mongolian in the library. * * * Introduced and purchased 18 databases such as ISI database, SpringerLink database and Apabi digital library system, and built 10 database, which greatly enriched the library's network literature information resources and became the largest network information center in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. With the establishment of library local area network, most of the work of the library has basically got rid of the traditional manual operation mode and realized networked computer management. Literature acquisition and cataloging work has developed from the initial stand-alone management to the operation of library local area network, and then to online cataloging on the Internet. The reading room adopts the layout mode of collecting, borrowing and reading in one, which is shared by teachers and students, and the vast majority of documents are managed in an open way. The inquiry of books and documents, the management of readers' borrowing documents and business statistics have also realized computer automation management, which has effectively improved the utilization rate of library collections and the scientific management level of reader service.
