Gay men in the history of China
Homosexuality has existed in China since ancient times, which can be said to be as long as that in China. Miracle (1724 ~ 1805), an outstanding scholar in China in Qing Dynasty and editor-in-chief of Sikuquanshu, recorded in his famous book Notes on Yuewei Caotang that "child molestation began in the Yellow Emperor". Child molestation is a young man who lets adult gay men have sex with him; The Yellow Emperor is the legendary ancestor of the Chinese nation. This puts the existence of homosexuality in China at the beginning of China's history.
In Historical Records in 90 BC, Sima Qian (BC 145 ~ 86) wrote: "As the saying goes, a good official is not as good as a good field. Nothing is false. Not only women flatter with colors. And officials also have it. In the past, there were many lucky people. " This passage by Sima Qian shows that as early as before the Han Dynasty, that is, before 206 BC (the "Historical Records" recorded the homosexuality of Emperor Gaozu, so the word "yesterday" should refer to before the Han Dynasty), many people had homosexual relations with the emperor because of their beauty.
This is an example in the official history that clearly points out that male homosexuality has existed for a long time.
In addition to historical records, there are also records of male homosexuality in ancient books such as The Spring and Autumn Annals of Yan Zi, Han Feizi, Warring States Policy, Han Shu, Jin Shu, Song Shu, Heather, Northern History and Chen Shu. Here are three records to be quoted, because they are the etymology of "appellations" or "pronouns" of gay men in China:
There is a historical story in the chapter "Solving Problems" in Everything is done by Han Feizi: Wang Wei Wei Linggong (reigned from 534 BC to 493 BC) fell in love with a handsome man Zixia Mi. According to the laws of Wei, if you drive the king's car illegally, you should be punished by breaking your feet. One day, when Zixia Mi heard that his mother was ill, he stole the king's car to see his mother. When the king heard this, he didn't punish him. Instead, he praised his filial piety; Another time, Zixia Mi and the king were playing in the orchard. Zixia Mi ate a very sweet peach and gave the rest to the king. The king praised him again, regardless of the etiquette of the monarch and his subjects, and he ate more peaches, which shows how much he loves each other! So it was later called gay "obsession with peaches."
According to Hanshu, Emperor Ai of the Han Dynasty loved Dong Xian very much. When traveling, Aidi shared a car with him, and when indoors, he shared a bed. On one occasion, they slept together during the day, and Eddie woke up to get up, but Dong Xian was still sleeping and pressed Eddie's sleeve. In order not to wake him, Eddie sent someone to cut his sleeves. So later, homosexuality was called "the addiction of broken sleeves", or "broken sleeves" for short, and sometimes called "Yu Tao's broken sleeves".
It is recorded in the Warring States Policy Wei Ce that Wang Wei and Long Yangjun are very good same-sex couples, sharing the same bed and loving each other very much. One day, Wang Wei and Long Yangjun were fishing in the same boat. Long Yangjun caught a dozen fish and burst into tears. Wang Wei asked him why. He said he was glad to catch a fish. Later, when he caught a bigger fish, he wanted to throw away the small fish he started fishing. So he thought that there were many beautiful women in the four seas, and he was afraid that Wang Wei would abandon him for fear of getting another beautiful woman, so he cried. Wang Wei promised never to talk about beauty, and ordered the whole family to copy anyone who violated the ban, which shows how sincere his love for Long Yangjun is. So later, homosexuality was called "the goodness of Longyang" or "Longyang" for short.
This shows that, at least in the Spring and Autumn Period, Warring States Period, Qin and Han Dynasties, homosexuality not only did not violate the ban, but was probably an "elegant addiction" because the emperor took the lead in doing so. Later, in the Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties, gay men were also "a fashion in the upper class". For example, there were seven famous literati in Wei and Jin Dynasties, who were called "Seven Sages of Bamboo Forest", and their relationship was very close. According to Dr. Fan Guli, a famous sexual expert in ancient China, at least Ji Kang (AD 223-262) and Ruan Ji (AD 2 10-263) were gay. In Liu Yiqing (AD 402-444), the wife of Dan Tao (AD 205-283) recorded the same-sex behavior of Ji Kang and Ruan Ji who lived in her house at night in the 19th chapter of Shi Shuo Xin Yu.
From the Tang Dynasty to the Song and Yuan Dynasties, there were few records about homosexuality. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, there were more records about gay men. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, an anonymous author wrote a book "Broken Sleeves", which specifically recorded about 50 famous homosexual cases in the history of China. Perhaps this is the only book in China's ancient literature devoted to homosexuality.
