The pictograph Oracle Bone Inscriptions once drew 1, like an ancient cooker steaming food. The "field" in Oracle Bone Inscriptions is not a field, but an interval grate. The "Ba" in the upper part is like steam scattered, just like a vessel for steaming food. This is the first article of Zan (zèng). Ancient retort has many steam holes at the bottom, and it is cooked on retort or retort, just like modern steamer. There are also extra grates. There was a pottery retort in Neolithic Age, and it was cast in bronze in Yin and Zhou Dynasties. The combination of Zan and Zan is Zan (y m 4 n). Since the inscriptions on bronze in the Western Zhou Dynasty, there is a symbol of "mouth" under the glyph, like an object carrying retort (Figures 2, 3 and 4); Sometimes a short cross is added to the mouth (adding a short cross to the mouth is a common phenomenon in ancient Chinese characters). The form of seal script is similar to that of bronze inscriptions, but the word "Tian" in the middle has changed (Figure 8). Han Li still followed the bronze inscription (Figure 9). Regular script is similar to small seal script, except that the strokes become straight.
There is a grain in the pot, and because the pot cannot be used alone, it must be placed on the kettle or pot, so the word "Zeng" extends the meaning of "increase". For example, "Mencius told the son": "Therefore, patience can not benefit it." After the increase, it forms a hierarchy, which is also extended to "layer", indicating overlap. For example, Qu Yuan's Li Sao: "I am sad when I am sad." "Zeng" refers to the kinship between two generations, such as "great grandfather" and "great grandson", which have the same meaning in ancient and modern times.
In pre-Qin ancient books, the word Zeng was borrowed as a function word and widely used. One is an accidental adverb, which is equivalent to "Jing". Second, adverbs expressing rhetorical questions or questions are equivalent to "how" in later generations. The meaning of "Zeng" in modern Chinese is relatively narrow, and it is often used as an adverb "Zeng". Adverbs "Jing" and "Mo" almost disappeared. When the word "Zeng" was borrowed as a function word, the word "Zan" was added to the meaning of cooker.
