I. Basic information

Zuozhuan in the Spring and Autumn Period, also known as Zuozhuan, is an existing historical document in China. Legend has it that it was written by Zuo Qiuming at the end of the Spring and Autumn Period to explain Confucius' Spring and Autumn Period. In fact, it was written between the Warring States and the Han Dynasty. The chronicle of the works began in the year of Lu Yin (722 BC) and ended in the 14th year of Lu Daogong (454 BC), which is much longer than the chronicle of Spring and Autumn Annals.

The earliest extant annotation of Zuo Zhuan is Chunqiu Jing Zhuan written in Song Dynasty. In the Qing Dynasty, there were Gu's Zuo Zhuan Zhu Bu, Huidong's Zuo Zhuan Bu, Hong's Chun Zhuan Shu, and Hong's Chun Zhuan Jiu Zhu Zheng. In modern times, there is Yang Bojun's Notes on Zuo Zhuan in the Spring and Autumn Period. Today, according to Ruan Yuan's revision of Notes to Thirteen Classics in Qing Dynasty.

Secondly, the executive summary.

Chunqiu is the earliest chronological history book in China, which was handed down by Confucius at the end of the Spring and Autumn Period in Shandong. The term "Spring and Autumn Period" is the general name of chronicles written by historians of various countries in the Eastern Zhou Dynasty. The reason why the ancients attached importance to writing history is that history is not only a record of ancestors' life, but also can draw all kinds of knowledge from it to guide secular life. Legend has it that the purpose of Confucius' writing Spring and Autumn Annals is to observe the ending of the story, know the decline when it is prosperous, punish the evil and promote the good, and set things right.

In order to achieve this goal, Confucius paid great attention to the choice of words and sentences in his writing, that is, as the later generations said, one word contains praise and the other word contains derogatory. The ancients paid special attention to Spring and Autumn Annals, and the Han Dynasty established an official school for Spring and Autumn Annals, which was listed as one of the "Five Classics". The most famous books in Spring and Autumn Annals are Zuo Zhuan, Ram Zhuan and Gu Liangzhuan, which are collectively called Three Biographies of Spring and Autumn Annals. By the Sui Dynasty, Zuo Zhuan was popular, while the other two biographies gradually declined.
