As early as 1403 (the first year of Yongle in Ming Dynasty), Farewell with the Wind clearly recorded China's islands "Diaoyu Island" and "chiwei yu" on the route from Fujian to Ryukyu, that is, Diaoyu Island and chiwei yu today. Hu Zongxian, governor of Zhejiang Province in the Ming Dynasty, also marked the coastal islands as the coastal defense jurisdiction in the Ming Dynasty, including Diaoyu Island and its affiliated islands, indicating that these islands had been under the jurisdiction of China coastal defense at least in the Ming Dynasty.

Diaoyu Island, also known as Diaoyutai Island, Fishing Island and Fishing Mountain, is the main island of Diaoyu Island and its affiliated islands in the East China Sea of China, and has been the inherent territory of China since ancient times.
