Is there a Tohoku University in Japan?

Tohoku University, referred to as "Tohoku University", is a national research comprehensive university headquartered in Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture, Tohoku Region, Japan. It is also the highest institution of higher learning in the Tohoku region of Japan. Its predecessor was the old Tohoku Imperial University founded in 1907, and originated from the Sendai Domain School "Meirun Yokendo" in 1736. In 2017, it was selected as the top three schools in the "Designated National University Corporation".
