The so-called three annotations of Historical Records are the collective names of Song Peiqi's Collection of Historical Records of Southern Dynasties, Sima Zhen's Study of Historical Records of Tang Dynasty and Zhang Shoujie's Justice of Historical Records of Tang Dynasty.

Historical records were widely circulated in China, about after the mid-Eastern Han Dynasty. It began at this time to become the proper name of Sima Qian's works.
