I. Overview of water resources of major rivers in China There are many rivers in China, with a total length of 420,000 km, more than 50,000 rivers with a drainage area of 1000 km2, and about 1500 rivers with a drainage area of1000 km2. The total runoff of the river is 2.7115×1012m3, which is equivalent to the runoff depth of 284mm and distributed in ten major river basins. Among the major rivers, the annual runoff of the Yangtze River, Pearl River, Heilongjiang River and Yarlung Zangbo River exceeds 654.38 billion cubic meters. The annual runoff of Lancang River, Nujiang River, Minjiang River, Yellow River, Qiantang River, Huaihe River and Yalu River is 30-75 billion m3. In table 1.6, there are 10 rivers with the length exceeding 1000km, which are the Yangtze River, Yellow River, Heilongjiang, Pearl River, Yarlung Zangbo River, Lancang River, Nujiang River, Liaohe River, Huaihe River and Haihe River in turn.
