Who is the Statue of Liberty?

The prototype of the Statue of Liberty is an Arab woman.

When the famous French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, the designer of the Statue of Liberty, visited Egypt from 1855 to 1856, he was keen on creating large public monuments and giant sculptures.

1869, the Egyptian government publicly solicited plans to build a lighthouse on the Suez Canal. Bartholdi designed a huge statue of an Egyptian woman, wearing a robe and holding a torch, entitled "Egypt (or progress) brings light to Asia".

1870, he began to design the Statue of Liberty on the basis of this scheme and concept, which means "freedom brings enlightenment to the world". 1886, as a gift from the French government to the 0/00th anniversary of American independence/kloc-0, the Statue of Liberty was completed in Liberty Island, New York.
