Extended data name source:

Huangguoshu Waterfall first appeared in ancient records in the Travels of Xu Xiake written by a traveler and geographer in Ming Dynasty.

According to an article in the book, on April 23rd, 1638, Xu Xiake asked the local people about the name of the river in the upper reaches of the Great Waterfall, and the answer was "Baishui River", but Xu Xiake did not mention the name of the Waterfall in the article.

Later, in a large number of Ming and Qing poems, when referring to waterfalls, it also refers to the "Baishui River", regardless of rivers and waterfalls.

Until the 14th year of Daoguang reign in Qing Dynasty (1834), Qian Ji inscribed by Li also included the Preface of Baishui River written by Jiangxi Li, which wrote: "Baishui River is named tree because there are many Huangguoshu." And I remember the two poems quoted in the preface: "Snow splashed the yellow fruit tree, and the red eye stabbed the pear."

In fact, there is no "Huangguoshu" in this area. The reason why the author wrote "Huangguoshu" is because there is a common deciduous tree "Li Wei" in this area, which is also a banyan tree. Because of the similar pronunciation, in the past, local businessmen mistakenly recorded "Li Yi" as "Huangguoshu", so there was this record. In the records of Zhenning County and Yongning Prefecture, there are also some appellations of this area, such as "Huanggeshu" and "Huanggeshu".

Huangguoshu Waterfall written by Wang Jingyi, a poet in Guiyang in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China, is the first document that directly puts forward the name of Huangguoshu Waterfall in reliable records. Coupled with the local people's trust in the ancient book Qian Ji, Huangguoshu Waterfall gradually replaced Baishuihe Waterfall and became the most common name of the waterfall.
