If you look at Evonne from a political point of view, you can be called a "bad king". Today, however, we should follow the vein of calligraphy and enter his artistic world. The historical scale is fair. After stating all the faults of Evonne, we will add a sentence at the end: "Hui Zonggong is good at calligraphy and painting, calligraphy is called thin gold, and he is good at painting flowers and birds ..." He is a talented and creative artist, but unfortunately, he is an imbecile in governing the country. In terms of calligraphy, its greatest achievement is its original creation of "thin gold body", which has become the object that later scholars look up to. A mature calligrapher's expression techniques are often diversified, and the works praised by later generations are often what he is good at. Those that are rarely mentioned are mostly because their expressions are not what the author is best at. However, although they are hidden in a corner of history, they still shine brilliantly. For example, Zhang Xu is good at cursive script, which ignores the existence of his regular script "Preface to Langguan Stone in Shangshu Province"; When Wang Duo said that he was good at cursive script, he never mentioned his official script. Similarly, Evonne's "cursive thousand-character script" is less mentioned than "regular script thousand-character script". Is it of low artistic value? The answer is of course no.
The cursive thousand-character script (the picture shows some works) now in the Liaoning Provincial Museum is paper, 3 1.5cm long and1/72cm wide. This volume was written in the 4th year of Xuanhe in the Northern Song Dynasty (1 122). At this time, Evonne was 40 years old and middle-aged.
Where can I get cursive script in Evonne? Sun Chengze, a scholar in A Qing, called him "Huai Su in calligraphy, with extremely weak wrists" in The Boxer Selling Summer Stories. From this perspective, Huai Su is indeed the main target of his method. He applied the continuous trend of Huai Su to the fullest, especially the use of circles. With the arrival of being proficient in this way, every word has formed a surrounding trend, and the structural space is full of tough elasticity. If you appreciate it with a critical eye, some words are trapped in a small circle and locked in a circle, which is inevitably a bit "excessive". For example, in this work, it may be better to add some hard corners to the handling of the word "gloomy".
The generation of classics depends on the test and judgment of time. It is a miracle that Evonne's cursive script can be circulated for nearly a thousand years. Nowadays, when we talk about the cursive scripts of Zhang Zhi, Wang Xizhi, Zhang Xu, Huai Su, Huang Tingjian and others, we will naturally think of Evonne's Thousand-Character Works, which is no regrets for Zhao Ji, who pioneered the "skinny body".
