Ancient couplet in the Republic of China

Author Huang Ke, a native of Tongyu, Huangyan, Zhejiang (now luqiao district), is a modern social activist, Confucian scholar and calligrapher. Graduated from Shijing University in the former Qing Dynasty, he was the director of Shanxi Museum, the director of Shanxi Library and the director of the Cultural Relics Exhibition Center of the Forbidden City in Beijing. During the Anti-Japanese War, he lived in Chongqing, ran a school with Xu Beihong and was self-sufficient in painting and calligraphy. After War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression's victory, he became the president of Zhongshu Art College. After liberation, he was elected director of China Artists Association and chairman of Southwest Artists Association. Later, he moved from Chongqing to Shanxi and became the chairman of Shanxi Branch of China Artists Association.
