When was Laos renamed Laos?

1. After World War II, in the struggle against French colonial rule, the faction supported by China and Viet Nam called their country "Patrao". Among them, "Bart" means the country and "Lao" is another name for Lao, the main ethnic group in Laos, so Chinese mainland used the name "Laos" in the 1950s (before 1955).

2. Former Names: In China ancient books, Laos is called Nanzhang, Zhang Lan, Lancang, Cable Palm, Laos, Laozhua, Laoya and Liaocha. In Vietnamese ancient books, it is called "Ailao". Japanese characters also have the name "Luo Yu".

3. Introduction to Laos

Laos (called Laos by Taiwan Province Province, Malaysia and Singapore) is a landlocked country in Indochina Peninsula. Historically, it was once a part of the kingdom of zhenla. From 13 to 18, Nanzhang was invaded by Siam and Vietnam, then by France, and 1893 became a French colony. Laos is a member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and one of the least developed countries. Joined ASEAN 1997 in July.

Laos has a weak industrial base, and the light industry, mainly sawing wood and milling rice, and the mining industry, mainly tin, are the most important sectors. The Langnan Pagoda in Laos in the Golden Triangle was once the place that produced the most opium in the world.

Laos is close to Thailand in diet. It is also one of the only two socialist countries in Southeast Asia, and the other is Vietnam.
