Red sandalwood, also known as "Qinglongmu", is a subtropical evergreen tree of the Butterfly family. It is five or six feet high, with butterfly-shaped compound leaves, winged fruit, hard wood and red color. Red sandalwood will sink when it enters the water. Rosewood is a particularly hard and heavy tree species in Leguminosae, and it is the most advanced material in mahogany.
The understanding and utilization of rosewood in ancient China began in the late Eastern Han Dynasty. In Jin Cuibao's Notes on Ancient and Modern Times, it is recorded that "rosewood is rich in south and purple in color, also known as rosewood."
