Mr. Zongxuan's Xuangang Lun, written by Wu Yun, a Taoist scholar in the Tang Dynasty. It has been recorded in "New Book of Tang·Yiwenzhi". "Legendary Taoist Canon" is in one volume and is included in the Taixuan Department. This book is an important theoretical work on Taoism in the Tang Dynasty. At the beginning of the volume is "Jin Xuan Gang Lun Biao" written by Wu Yun in the 13th year of Tianbao (754), and at the end of the volume is "Biography of Master Wu Zun" written by Quan Deyu, Minister of Rites. The main text is divided into three parts: upper, middle and lower. It summarizes the key points of Taoist theory, hence the name "Xuan Gang Lun". The first part, "Elucidating Morality," consists of nine chapters, explaining the main purpose of "morality." It is said that Tao is "the relationship of nothingness, the root of creation, the foundation of gods, and the source of heaven and earth"; virtue is "endowed by heaven and earth, endowed by yin and yang". It is also known as: "What is born from communication is called Tao. What is born from animals is called virtue." Human beings in heaven and earth, as well as immortals, ghosts and gods, all take morality as the basis for their creation. Although people are born with virtue in the Tao, their nature is driven by emotions, and their emotions are contrary to the Tao. Therefore, life and death are not independent in longevity. If you can get rid of your desires, be smart, do nothing and worry, reach the extreme of tranquility and emptiness, transcend movement and stillness, and have a complete spirit and energy, you will be one with the Tao. Being partners with creation, transcending the burden of life and death. It is also said that the way of government must "internal morality and external benevolence and righteousness. Simplicity first, then etiquette and wisdom." Some people think that Taoism despises benevolence and righteousness, despises etiquette and wisdom, and only focuses on purity and emptiness. This is because the worldly Confucians fail to realize the profound purpose of Xuansheng. The fifteen chapters of the middle volume "Distinguishing the Dharma and Teaching" describe the key points of learning the Tao and becoming an immortal. It is said that the Immortal Way "all takes supreme tranquility as its sect, meditation as its purpose, fasting as its duty, and kindness as its priority." Then exhale and guide, soothe the mind and moisturize the bones, use yang to refine yin, make yang prosperous and yin disappear. Although the body is moving, the mind is still calm. Although it is inaction, it cannot be underestimated. It is also necessary to accumulate yin power and correct yang faults. If the five desires are unmoved in the mind, food and clothing can be left to nature, food absorbs the essence, and sleepless day and night, one can attain the Tao and become an immortal. The next part, "Analysis of Condensation", consists of nine chapters, hypothetical questions and answers, to analyze various stagnations in cultivating and becoming an immortal. Whether you become an immortal or not depends on whether you are good at studying Taoism. Those with immortal bones can become immortals even if they serve as officials and rule the world. Those who are loyal, filial, honest, and have great merits will be promoted to their vocation. He also advocates that cultivating one’s nature and refining one’s body should not be neglected. It is said that those who only think that the attainment of nature is wonderful but do not know how to refine the body, "How can the so-called pure and kind ghosts be compared with the high immortals!"
