Chronological characteristics since the proposal was made.

The compilation of Yao Lu inherits the traditions of Tongjian and Changbian. Based on official calendars, records and meetings, the book has collected a wide range of records and made its own exposition after careful inspection and revision. There are also detailed notes in the book, explaining the source of the materials and the basis for obtaining them. The Summary of the General Contents of Sikuquanshu commented on Yao Lu: "Although his book is based on Li Dao, it is better to study it carefully." Yao Lu only recorded the great events of Emperor Gaozong's thirty-six years, but its length was as many as 200 volumes, especially in the thirteen years from the first year of Jian Yan to the ninth year of Shao, with almost ten volumes every year, which was more detailed than Changbian, which was also due to its relatively new history and more materials. As for the title of this book, according to the order of Yao Lu published at the beginning of Miscellaneous Notes, it was recorded in the Emperor Gaozong period, and this biography of the Song Dynasty was also recorded in the Emperor Gaozong period. However, since Sikuquanshu was designated as Yao Lu Jianyan, this name has been used by later generations. In fact, this book only records the historical facts of Emperor Gaozong, and it should be based on the "Yearbook of Emperor Gaozong". As for the title "Chronicle of Emperor Gaozong", we can know from the names and contents of the miscellaneous notes of the ruling and opposition parties since the establishment of Emperor Yan that it is the name of the author's more extensive chronicle works, and "Chronicle of Emperor Gaozong" is only a part of it, and it should also include the records of filial piety, Guangzong and Ning for three years. But now that filial piety has been recorded, it is not known whether Guangzong and Ningzong are recorded in one book.
