He was usually responsible for compiling the time constitutions of each year and predicting solar and lunar eclipses. During the Qianlong period, he went to Xinjiang twice for surveying and mapping. He measured the solar noon high arc to determine the geographical latitude, and used lunar eclipse observations to determine the east-west declination, that is, longitude. At the same time, he also used triangulation. Based on the measurements, he compiled the "Complete Map of the Imperial Map" Xinjiang part.
