Ciyun Temple in Pishan, Huzhou: There are stories to listen to, but nothing to see.

@ Tieshan Qingshi (laughing alone) [Narrator]

May 13, Pishan Ciyun Temple, Pishan Village, east of Huzhou City.

From Shanghai to Huzhou by car, as soon as I entered Huzhou, I saw Pishan across two bridges. Of course, I didn't know where it was when I first saw it, but I thought it was quite eye-catching. It is estimated that there is a temple on the mountain. So I think I should go and see it sometime.

After investigation, this Pishan is indeed a place with high historical and cultural status for Huzhou, not just the landmark landscape of the east gate of Huzhou.

First of all, Pishan was once a battleground for attacking and defending Huzhou in history. Although Pishan is only 55.9 meters above sea level, it is the only commanding height in the east of Huzhou. At the beginning of the Ming Dynasty, Xu Da and Chang Yuchun led 200,000 troops to crusade against Zhang Shicheng, that is, Pishan was captured first, and then Huzhou was surrounded, causing Zhang Shixin, Zhang Shicheng's younger brother stationed in the river mountain (namely Jin Gaishan), to flee at the wind (The Biography of Chang Yuchun in the thirteenth volume of Ming History records the battle of Huzhou, saying, "Wu Jun was defeated in Taihu Lake, in Pishan Mountain, in Sanliqiao, and Huzhou was thin." );

Secondly, Pishan is rich in cultural heritage. From the founding father of Nanliang, poet Liu Yun (who served as the magistrate of Xing Wu twice) to build Pishan Pavilion and reading desk (and often answered the poems of Wujun in Nanliang, and was hired by him as the main book), to the famous water conservancy minister Pan Jixun in Wan Jia in the Ming Dynasty to build Pishan Garden, countless literati climbed Pishan in previous dynasties (of course, this has the advantage of overlooking Taihu Lake and Lake City).

Thirdly, Pishan also plays an important role in China civilization archaeology. Pishan site is a national key cultural relics protection unit, mainly distributed around Pishan, covering an area of about 6,543,800 square meters. It is the remains of Shang and Zhou dynasties after Liangzhu culture and before the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, reflecting the rise of large-scale settlements and handicraft clusters centered on Tiaoxi in Huzhou. According to scholars' judgment, the civilization it represents is probably the predecessor of Yue State and Wu State.

Why is Pishan so precious? In fact, Ming Chenghua's "Wucheng County Records" has given the answer when recording Pishan, that is, "suddenly independent from Daxi". In other words, the feeling of being suddenly enlightened is the greatest advantage of Pishan. According to historical records, Pishan is located in Wuli, northeast of Huzhou Prefecture, and it is named because it is close to Fucheng. Those who are near are also near (but according to Huzhou folklore, the word "near" comes from the word "avoid", because Guanyin Bodhisattva, who practiced in Baique Temple in Huzhou during the Southern Dynasties, had difficulty in taking refuge in Bi Mountain, and the word "near" was actually "avoid the mountain").

So, after learning that I could take bus No.28, I rode a green orange bike to find the bus stop of Yuehe Primary School, and made a big detour to find Yuehe Primary School at the western end of Tiaoxi East Road. It's really not far from Yuehe Primary School to Pishan Village where Pishan is located. It's only three stops away (but it should still be a little far by bike, because the last stop is far away, which is the rhythm of going out of town).

Because the Ciyun Temple at the top of Pishan Mountain is under construction, I feel a little tired after coming down from Ciyun Temple, so I gave up the idea of looking for Pishan ruins again (the so-called "mainly distributed around Pishan Mountain" sounds a bit worrying, for fear that I have to go to many places to see the whole picture).

In this way, I just visited Ciyun Temple with the back door open. In fact, apart from a middle-aged man who looks like a temple logistics staff, a number of male and female workers on the construction site and a pair of young people driving up the mountain, perhaps the most worth seeing is a peacock of unknown origin (it is said that she took me upstairs because the main building of the temple is upstairs). As for the Hall of the Great Hero and the Hall of the Tong Yuan, I can say that I didn't leave any feeling, because I didn't go into the Hall (I didn't see the Heavenly King Hall in Myanmar where the jade Buddha was dedicated, but I should have seen it from the main entrance).

According to the investigation, Ciyun Temple was built in the late Ming Dynasty during the Chongzhen period, formerly known as Baoben Temple. According to the Records of Wucheng County in Guangxu of Qing Dynasty, it was the result that Pan Jixun's descendants moved the "Baoben Temple" which was on the verge of collapse to the former site of Fei Ying Temple. It is said that it used to be the front hall of Guanyin, and there is also a "Wenchang Pavilion" for statues of Liu Yun, Pan Jixun and others. It was not until the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China that the name of the temple was changed from "Hoonji" to "Ciyun Temple".

About a short visit to Ciyun Temple in Pishan, my biggest feeling is that it is a place with rich background and stories. Unfortunately, there are no "old things" now, and almost all romantic feelings have been blown away by the wind and rain (excluding the cultural relics unearthed at Pishan site, of course). For people who have nothing to do with it, as the plaque of Tongyuantang's "Famous Mountain wins people" says, the main advantage of Ciyun Temple now may be that the "famous mountain" of Pishan can be dominated by a soul.

By the way, this mountain seems to have always had the reputation of "the first mountain in northern Zhejiang". When looking up relevant information, I once saw a Huzhou netizen say "Hehe" (related to the altitude of Pishan Mountain), which may be related to the legend of Guanyin Bodhisattva gaining enlightenment in Ciyun Temple. If I want to make fun of it, I might as well interpret "the first mountain in northern Zhejiang" as "the first mountain in northern Zhejiang seen after boarding the south bank of Taihu Lake".
