What kind of book is Shennong's Herbal Classic?

Shennong's Classic of Materia Medica, also known as Classic of Materia Medica or Classic of Materia Medica, is one of the four classic works of Chinese medicine. As the earliest extant TCM works, it originated from Shennong family and was handed down from generation to generation. It was compiled into a book in the Eastern Han Dynasty.

The book was not written in a moment, and the author is different. Many medical scientists in Qin and Han dynasties collected, summarized and sorted out the monographs on pharmacological experience at that time, which was the first book in China to systematically summarize traditional Chinese medicine.

Most theories and compatibility laws of TCM and the principle of "seven emotions in harmony" have played a great role in the practice of medication for thousands of years and are the source of the development of TCM theory. Before Li Shizhen published Compendium of Materia Medica, it was always regarded as the most authoritative medical book.

Shennong's Classic of Materia Medica is divided into three volumes, containing 365 kinds of drugs. It is divided into three categories: upper, middle and lower, and its conciseness has become the essence of Chinese medicine theory.

Extended data:

First, the book structure.

Shennong's Classic of Materia Medica is divided into three volumes, containing 365 kinds of drugs. It is divided into three categories: upper, middle and lower, and its conciseness has become the essence of Chinese medicine theory.

From ancient times to the present, there have been different textual researches on the time when it was compiled into a book, either in the Qin and Han Dynasties or in the Warring States Period. The original book was lost early, and this book was compiled by cursive scripts of past dynasties for future generations.

There are 365 kinds of herbs in the book, including 252 kinds of plants, 67 kinds of animals and 46 kinds of minerals. According to the different properties and purposes of use, drugs are divided into three categories: upper, middle and lower. It is called "three-product classification" and meets the three talents of "heaven and earth".

Top grade 120, non-toxic. Most of them are nourishing and strong products, such as ginseng, licorice, rehmannia root and jujube, which can be taken for a long time. There are 120 kinds of products in China, some are non-toxic and some are toxic, and some can make up the deficiency and help the weak, such as lily, angelica, longan and velvet antler. Some can dispel pathogenic factors and resist diseases, such as coptis chinensis, ephedra, angelica dahurica and scutellaria baicalensis.

There are 0/25 kinds of inferior drugs/kloc-,many of which are toxic and can dispel evil and break accumulation, such as rhubarb, aconite, kansui, croton, etc., which cannot be taken for a long time. This is the earliest pharmacological classification in China, which has been used for several generations. Through long-term clinical practice and modern scientific research, it is proved that most of the drugs contained in it are correct.

Second, academic value.

The historical position of Shennong Herbal Classic cannot be underestimated. It systematically summarizes the scattered pharmaceutical knowledge before the Eastern Han Dynasty, and contains many contents with scientific value, which are cherished by doctors in past dynasties.

And it has long been used as a compilation style of pharmaceutical works. As the first monograph on pharmacology in China, its influence is far-reaching.

This classic put forward the prescription theory of "monarch, minister, assistant and envoy" for the first time, which was used by later generations. The ordered example (or preface) is a volume of its own, which is the general introduction of the book and summarizes the pharmaceutical theory of 13.

The publication of Classic has had a great influence on the development of pharmacy in China. Several representative materia medica in history, such as Notes to the Classic of Materia Medica, Newly Revised Materia Medica, Materia Medica with Syndromes and Compendium of Materia Medica, all originated from the Classic and developed.

The relationship between drugs is also a key to pharmacy, and the principle of "seven emotions and harmony" put forward in Benjing has played a huge role in the practice of medication for thousands of years.
