Why are the two Chinese watches on the Peking University campus thicker and thinner?

When Yanjing University was building its campus in 1925, only three poles were transported from the Old Summer Palace, but the fourth pole was transported to Beijing. In 1931, the fourth Chinese watch was lying on the south side of the road in front of Tiananmen. Later, when the Beijing Library was building a new building on Wenjin Street, people wanted to move a redundant Chinese watch from Yan University and pair it with another one on the south side of the road in front of Tiananmen, and move them together to the front of the Beijing Library. Unexpectedly, something went wrong during the transportation. As a result, the Chinese watches from Yanda and Beitu were not paired, which made this interesting incident happen.

Later, people moved the remaining pair of Chinese watches in Yan University to the front of the office building, forming what people see now. As for the other two Chinese watches, one is placed in Beihai Park and the other is placed in Zhongshan Park.
