The Origin and Development of Acupuncture
The early medical work Neijing summarized the acupuncture methods since ancient times, and mentioned nine pricks, twelve pricks and five pricks. In terms of reinforcing and reducing methods, Ji Xu's reinforcing and reducing methods, breathing reinforcing and reducing methods, twisting reinforcing and reducing methods, welcoming reinforcing and reducing methods, lifting and interpolating reinforcing and reducing methods, and opening and closing reinforcing and reducing methods were mentioned, which laid the foundation for acupuncture methods in later generations. Then it expounds Difficult Classics, emphasizing the importance of cooperation between hands in acupuncture and moxibustion, which has a great influence on later generations.
During the Tang and Song Dynasties, acupuncture techniques always inherited the theories of Neijing and Difficult Classic. In the Jin and Yuan Dynasties, the theory of hour hand was put forward. Dou Hanqing's Classic Guide to Acupuncture established fourteen acupuncture methods, most of which are still of practical value.
Shen Ying Jing, written by Chen Hui in the early Ming Dynasty, put forward the method of urging qi, which is still applicable to clinic. Xu Feng's "Ode to the Golden Needle" also puts forward a set of complicated reinforcing and reducing methods, and also systematically discusses "burning mountain fires" and "penetrating the sky".
Later, the acupuncture techniques recorded in Gao Wu's Acupuncture Collection and Wang Ji's Acupuncture Question were all written on the basis of gold. Yang Jizhou's "Acupuncture and Moxibustion Dacheng" also collected the essence of acupuncture before Ming Dynasty, and put forward "big needle and big diarrhea", "flat needle and flat diarrhea", "twelve needles" and "eight needles".
