The School of Information Management of Wuhan University is the oldest, largest and most powerful information management discipline teaching and research institution in my country. The research base is committed to cultivating senior comprehensive information management talents and leaders in the information profession. It is a key construction unit of the national "211 Project" and "985 Project" and ranks first in the country in terms of disciplinary strength. In June 2009, the school was officially admitted as a member of I-Schoolss, the International Alliance of Top Library and Information Schools. The predecessor of the college was the Library Department of Wuchang Wenhua University, which was founded in 1920. In 2001, it was renamed the School of Information Management. After nearly ninety years of hard work, the college has become a leader in many research fields in the country. Library, information and archives management were recognized as first-level national key disciplines in the subject evaluation organized by the Ministry of Education. The college consists of five departments: Library Science, Information Management Science, Archives and Government Information, Publishing Science, and Electronic Commerce, with 5 undergraduate majors and 8 master's and doctoral programs (library science, information science, Archival science, ancient book compilation and protection, information resource management, publishing and distribution, management science and engineering, e-commerce), two first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization points and two postdoctoral mobile stations.
The college has a strong teaching staff, with 33 professors, 40 associate professors and senior researchers. The college owns the Information Resources Research Center of Wuhan University, the only key research base in the humanities and social sciences of the Ministry of Education in the country in this professional field, and has the national "985 Project" philosophy and social science innovation research base - Information Resources Research and innovation base. The college is also the National Information Resources Management Research (Wuhan) Base and the Wuhan University Senior Publishing Talent Training Base of the General Administration of Press and Publication.
