Scholars' history edition

The Scholars is divided into four editions according to the number of chapters: 50 chapters; 55 copies; 60 copies; 56 copies. Among them, there have been different opinions about what is the original version, but by the end of the 20th century, experts and scholars generally clarified the original appearance, and generally believed that the original appearance was 56 times. Therefore, the article "The Scholars" in the 201edition of Cihai has been directly marked as "Chapter 56" and he is not recorded. The situation of each version is as follows:

The first, 50-article version, begins with Cheng Jinfang's Collected Works of Mianxingtang (Volume 6) and Biography of Mr. Wenmu, saying that "the Scholars have 50 volumes". This version was popular in Daoguang and Xianfeng years, and it is still being attacked, but it has not been seen for 50 times. It can be said that this version does not exist. The second, the 55th edition, originated from the postscript of Jin Heben, The Scholars written by Qun Yuzhai in Qing Dynasty. The postscript said that Wu's cousin Jin had published 55 volumes (the 55th edition) when he was a professor in Yangzhou Prefecture, and Jin He also thought that the 56th edition was AIA (editor's note: that is, the 56th edition was "Tribute to the Emperor"). However, Jin and the so-called 55 principal time have never been seen, only 55 copies he deleted from "AIA". The third version, the 60th edition, has only one kind, that is, the version supplemented by Shi Yinben in Hongbaozhai, and the last four editions were supplemented by the gentry who lived in the world (pen name Wu Dongxi Hongsheng).

56 original books, one * * * 8 books. Now we can see that the earliest publication is "Woxian Caotang", published by 1803 (8 years of Jiaqing in Qing Dynasty), and the People's Literature Publishing House has also published photocopies accordingly. In addition, there are: Zhulige Magazine, Yigutang Magazine, Panben (editor's note: the academic circles generally call it Pan Shi edition, which is now in Shanghai Library), Qunyuzhai movable type, Shenbaotang movable type, Shenbaotang towel box and Qishengtang updated edition (editor's note: Qishengtang has 56 books and 60 books, which is the difference, the former is generally called "56 books".

At present, more than 90% of the printed books published after liberation are 55, which is incomplete. The publications based on Zuben's fifty-six-year-old Wocaotang are: Zhang Huijian's Notes on Scholars, People's Literature Publishing House 1958, 1978, 1995; Jiangsu Ancient Books Publishing House (1989 edition) newly approved a history of scholars.
