1. The sixty-four hexagrams of the Book of Changes. Regarding the sequence of the sixty-four hexagrams of the Book of Changes, it seems at first glance that this is a subject that has already been authoritatively concluded. Among the Ten Wings of the Book of Changes, there is an article called "Xu Gua Zhuan" that specifically discusses the order and significance of the sixty-four hexagrams, which should be beyond doubt. However, upon closer analysis, things are not that simple. Because, as we all know, the Yizhuan part appeared hundreds of years later than the Yijing part, spanning a historical era that cannot be ignored. In fact, the current version of the Yijing is a "bundled" work, which is composed of two different parts: the "Book of Changes" and the "Yizhuan". The latter is the annotation, interpretation and interpretation of the former by later generations hundreds of years later. The two cannot be treated equally when doing research. For example, many of the essays written by people today on "A Dream of Red Mansions" may not be in line with Cao Xueqin's original intention.
2. The hexagram sequence of the Tongxing version comes from the "Xu Gua Zhuan". Qian, Kun, Tun, Meng, Need, Litigation... are the products of the rise of benevolence, righteousness, morality and etiquette in the Spring and Autumn Period, focusing on philosophy. This may not be in line with the original meaning of the "Book of Changes" produced during the Western Zhou Dynasty. The "Book of Changes" in silk scrolls unearthed from the Mawangdui Han Tomb in 1973 are in different orders: Jian (Qian), Fu (No), Fu (Escape), Li (Lu), Litigation, Tongren... This is a palace arranged in different order. Together they are closer to the sequence of the original thought.
3. In fact, according to the principle of binary numbers, the combination of yin and yang of the sixty-four hexagrams clearly specifies its own inherent sequence, and this sequence truly expresses the meaning of the order of the I Ching. In the following, only the Yin Yao is 0 and the Yang Yao is 1. From bottom to top and from right to left, a binary number sequence is formed, which is usually called the Fuxi hexagram number.
