Let you fully understand - diabetes

Diabetes can be diagnosed when fasting blood glucose is greater than or equal to 7.0 mmol per liter or when blood glucose two hours after a meal is greater than or equal to 11.1 mmol per liter.

Traditional Chinese medicine classifies diabetes as diabetes. According to the different locations of clinical symptoms, it can be divided into upper elimination, middle elimination and lower elimination. According to the main symptoms, it is divided into the following five syndrome types.

1: Shangxiao (symptoms of polydipsia are more prominent)

The main symptoms of lung heat and body fluid injury syndrome are: thirsty and polydipsia, dry mouth and tongue, frequent urination, and irritability and heat Excessive sweating, red tip of tongue, thin yellow tongue coating. The treatment method is to clear away heat, moisten the lungs, promote fluid production and quench thirst.

2: Zhongxiao (symptoms of polyphagia are more prominent)

1: The main symptoms of excessive stomach heat are: polyphagia, easy hunger, thirst and urination, weight loss, and dry stool , yellow tongue coating. The treatment method is to clear the stomach, purge fire, nourish yin and increase fluid.

2: Qi and Yin deficiency syndrome. The main symptoms are: thirst leading to drinking, inability to eat and loose stools, lack of energy, weakness in limbs, body weight, pale red tongue, white and dry coating. The treatment method is to replenish qi, strengthen the spleen, produce body fluid and quench thirst.

Three: Xixiao (polyuria symptoms are more prominent)

1: The main symptoms of kidney yin deficiency syndrome are: frequent urination, turbid urine, soreness and weakness of waist and knees, fatigue, Dizziness, tinnitus, dry mouth and lips, dry and itchy skin, red tongue with less coating. Use the method of nourishing yin and strengthening kidney.

2: The main symptoms of deficiency of both yin and yang are: frequent urination, turbidity like ointment, even drinking a sip, haggard face, dry helix, weak waist and knees, hypothermia of limbs, fear of cold and cold limbs, and impotence Or irregular menstruation, pale and dry tongue coating. Use the treatment method of nourishing yin and warming yang, nourishing kidney and strengthening astringency.

Based on the above five syndrome types, the combination of traditional Chinese and Western medicine adds two more syndrome types based on the understanding of type 2 diabetes.

1: Syndrome of phlegm and blood stasis. The main symptoms are: three more and one less symptoms are not obvious, body obesity, chest and abdominal distension, muscle soreness, heavy or tingling limbs, dark tongue or ecchymosis. The treatment method is to activate blood circulation, remove blood stasis and eliminate phlegm.

2: Vein stasis syndrome. The main symptoms are: dull complexion, weight loss, chest pain, numbness or tingling in the limbs, aggravated at night, purple lips, dark tongue or ecchymosis, and thin white tongue coating. Use the method of promoting blood circulation and dredging collaterals.

With the development of medical technology, Western medicine has systematically classified and described diabetes and its complications. Here, we only analyze the most common clinical types 1 and 2.

Type 1 diabetes tends to occur in young adults, with a sudden onset and obvious symptoms of three more and one less. It is an autoimmune disease characterized by the destruction of pancreatic islet cells and lack of insulin secretion. Regular insulin injections are required throughout life.

Type 2 diabetes tends to occur in middle-aged and elderly people. Its onset is insidious and its clinical symptoms are not obvious. The incidence rate is high in obese people. It is often accompanied by other metabolic diseases. It is caused by environmental factors and lifestyle factors, and insulin resistance. Caused by the disease, insulin alone is not effective.

In clinical practice, the main symptoms of lung heat and body fluid injury syndrome, stomach heat syndrome, qi and yin deficiency syndrome, and kidney yin deficiency syndrome are relatively consistent with the symptoms of type 1 diabetes, but type 1 diabetes Insulin treatment should be the main treatment. With insulin stabilizing blood sugar, traditional Chinese medicine can be used to help improve the symptoms of excess and deficiency and improve the quality of life. However, traditional Chinese medicine is not used as the main treatment method.

We found that the main symptoms of yin and yang deficiency syndrome are consistent with the complications of diabetes (diabetic nephropathy). During the treatment, western medicine is used to control blood sugar, while traditional Chinese medicine nourishes yin and warms yang, nourishes the kidney and strengthens astringency, which is often better than the symptoms alone. The effect of traditional Chinese medicine or western medicine is obvious.

Because most people with type 2 diabetes are obese and suffer from phlegm-dampness and blood stasis, the symptoms are consistent with the combination of phlegm and blood stasis. In clinical treatment, Western medicine can be used to control blood sugar to treat the symptoms, and Chinese medicine can be used to activate blood circulation, remove blood stasis and eliminate phlegm to treat the root cause. In conjunction with diet control, exercise and weight loss can have a good effect and even cure the disease. What is advocated here is the comprehensive application of the integration of traditional Chinese and Western medicine, diet therapy, exercise therapy and healthy lifestyle.

In addition, the symptoms of choroid stasis are quite consistent with the symptoms of complications of diabetes (diabetic coronary heart disease). Many of the blood vessel and nerve symptoms caused by diabetes are also partially consistent with the symptoms of choroid stasis. As we all know, the harm of high blood sugar itself is limited and controllable, but the complications caused by long-term high blood sugar are the most serious harm to the body and even life-threatening. Therefore, we must pay more attention to the treatment of complications. Pay attention to the combination of traditional Chinese and Western medicine. On the basis of controlling blood sugar, use traditional Chinese medicine to reduce or alleviate the damage to various target organs as much as possible to avoid irreversible serious complications such as diabetic foot that require amputation.
