The origin of the name of plush chair

The origin of the name "plush chair"

The plush chair is the top chair, which is an old-fashioned spacious chair with both backrest and armrest. There are two opinions about the origin of the name of plush chair.

First, in ancient times, this kind of chair was specially designed for the official residence, that is, the seat of the Taishi, hence the name "Taishi Chair". According to York's Wood History, Qin Gui, a traitor in the Southern Song Dynasty, gave a banquet to entertain guests one day. During the dinner, a soldier came up to Qin Gui and touted his relative's "merits". Qin Gui was so happy that he ordered an actor to give him a chair to sit on. I was flattered to join the army. When I was sitting in the archway, my head suddenly fell off because of my irrational behavior, revealing the towel ring. The actor immediately asked what the towel ring was when he joined the army, and the answer when he joined the army was: "Two sacred rings". When the actor heard this, he said to the army in a pun: "You only care about sitting in the plush chair, but you left those two sacred rings. Is it reasonable? " On the surface, the actors' comments criticized the disrespectful behavior of joining the army, but in fact they insinuated that Qin Gui only cared about being a teacher and forgot the return of Song Huizong and Song Qinzong. The "two saints" mentioned by the actors, namely Huizong and Qinzong, have been captured and detained by the Jin people at this time; "Huan" sounds like "Huan", which means to return to the imperial court of the Song Dynasty. Later generations not only marveled at the actor's speaking skills, but also called the top spot "fauteuil chair" from now on.

Second, it evolved from a stone chair. "Wen Taishi" refers to Wen Zhiming, a gifted scholar in Ming Dynasty, and "Wen Taishi Chair" is the top priority in his daily life. After his death, this chair belonged to Zeng Sun Wen. Wen Zhen, a native of Meng Ming, was once a prime minister and a master of Chongzhen Dynasty. Because the pronunciation of "Taishi" and "Taishi" is similar, and Wen lives in the official residence of Taishi, so this kind of chair is called "Taishi Chair".
