"Zhu Zhen powder can whiten beauty? Although many people who respect the ancient times often take Empress Dowager Cixi as an example, it is said that Empress Dowager Cixi eats 1 silver spoon pearl powder every once in a while, and crushes several pearls every day to maintain her skin, so that even if she is in her 60 s and early 20 s, she can charm British officers as proof of the beauty of pearl powder. Although some people think that this is an outdated maintenance method, in recent years, more and more skin care products and oral care foods have been promoted in the market. Does pearl powder really have the effect of beauty and health care?

Chinese medicine doctor Luo said that pearls have been widely used in China for thousands of years, and their efficacy has been recorded in many ancient Chinese medicine books. In terms of external use, Li Shizhen's Compendium of Materia Medica in Ming Dynasty recorded: "The coating of pearls makes people moist and colorful. Does pearl have the effect of whitening skin? Luo thinks there is, but it is mainly used to moisturize the skin. However, the external effect of skin is limited. If you want to supplement effective ingredients, you still have to rely on internal strength.

Supplementable amino acids and trace elements

What effect does oral pearl powder have? From the perspective of modern medicine, pearl powder can supplement amino acids and trace elements. At present, scientific analysis shows that pearls contain rare trace elements and amino acids necessary for human body. Supplementing these nutrients helps to promote the regeneration of skin and human tissues. Therefore, it should be effective for ancient people to take it, and it has been passed down to this day.

But some people think that the ancient pearl extraction method is too rough? The human body can't absorb it at all, so I doubt the effect of eating pearl powder in ancient times. Luo said that in ancient times, the so-called "water flying method" was regarded as the best method by the Chinese medicine community. The traditional water jet pulverization of mineral drugs is mainly to remove water-soluble substances and their toxic components, to prevent dry grinding from generating heat energy and affecting the effect of drugs, and to make drug powder very fine.

Recently, pearl powder is more advertised as nano powder. From the earlier high-temperature and high-pressure blasting method to now, it is emphasized that all-low temperature nano-grinding powder will not destroy the activity of pearl trace elements, and that pearl powder can be ground below 100 nm. Luo said that studies have shown that healthy subjects ingested 780 mg of nano pearl powder and micron pearl powder respectively, and found that after ingesting nano pearl powder, the related indexes such as the increase of serum total calcium, the increase of urine total calcium and creatinine, and the decrease of serum parathyroid hormone show that the physical utilization rate of nano pearl powder is much better than that of micron pearl powder.

Pearl powder can also soothe the nerves.

In fact, pearl powder is rarely used unilaterally in traditional Chinese medicine, and it is usually used in combination. Moreover, pearls have more than one function, and they also have the function of calming the nerves.

Pearls have been used in pharmacy in China for more than 2000 years. The curative effects of pearls have been recorded in the Three Kingdoms Period, Compendium of Materia Medica, Compendium of Materia Medica in Tang Dynasty and Kaibao Materia Medica in Song Dynasty, as well as Compendium of Materia Medica in Ming Dynasty and Medicinal Fu by Lei Gong in Qing Dynasty. Among them, Compendium of Materia Medica records that pearls can cure eye diseases and skin diseases.

In the Ming Dynasty, "Duyizhi" recorded that pearls were added with realgar and other alchemy, which promoted life. It is recorded in Compendium of Materia Medica that pearls are salty, sweet, cold, non-toxic and can soothe the nerves. When applied to hands and feet, it can remove rash (paronychia today), eliminate phlegm, remove facial spots and stop diarrhea, except for children.

Luo said that pearl powder can whiten the skin, and has the function of convergence and inhibition of skin oil production. In addition to beauty, the most commonly used part is to soothe the nerves. For example, children are prone to waking up in the middle of the night and cramping. According to modern nutrition, pearl powder itself is natural calcium, and calcium has a calming effect, which can prove that pearl powder does have a calming effect. Therefore, many health foods are still advertised to contain pearl powder.

High moisturizing effect, can moisturize the skin.

However, dermatologist Zhao Zhaoming reminded us to be careful when using pearl products for external use, because pearl cream of unknown origin has been found before, which can really whiten at first, but the result turns black. It turned out that there was heavy metal in it. Even in recent years, many pearl creams of unknown origin have been illegally added with heavy metals in the sampling inspection by local health authorities, so we must be very careful when using them.

Pearl powder is also graded. Doctors believe that the whitening effect of pearl powder for external use is mainly due to its moisturizing effect. Moreover, if it is white and transparent, on the one hand, it can form a protective film of the skin for external use, and it can also produce whitening effect in the stratum corneum. However, whether it can really brighten the skin tone may depend on the situation.

However, it should be noted that some people may be allergic to chitin, so pearl powder is not suitable. If you are allergic to chitin but don't know it, applying skin care products containing pearl powder may cause allergic skin inflammation and produce sunscreen effect, but it will not achieve whitening effect.

Eating too much pearl powder can lead to stones?

Someone in the workshop warned: "if you eat too much pearl powder, be careful that stones may occur." Luo said that more than 90% of the ingredients in pearls are calcifications. Just like eating all foods high in calcium, be careful not to eat too much. Generally, the health food containing pearl powder in the market is only about 1 g, and the calcium content is within 1000mg. Food management classified by the Ministry of Health and Welfare will not exceed the daily recommended amount 1600mg. As long as you don't eat too much food with high calcium when taking pearl powder, there should be no big problem.

Zhao Zhaoming also believes that pearl powder products are usually expensive and are unlikely to be eaten in large quantities every day. Therefore, eating pearl powder should not cause stones. Just pay attention to the source of pearls and don't have heavy metals or other pollution, otherwise don't worry too much.

Tips! What is the water flying method?

The water flying method is wet grinding. 1. In order to make the surface of pearls rough and easy to grind, tofu and pearls are boiled together before processing, or pearls are soaked in vinegar for a while, and then 10 ~ 15℃ water is added for grinding, and minerals or shellfish drugs are repeatedly ground into very fine powder. Pearl powder with different particle sizes will be separated by using different suspensions of fine powder and coarse powder in water during grinding, and then dried from the suspension. Repeated for 7 or 8 days, not only the powder is very fine, but also it can reach the micron level of pearl powder, such as 200 mesh, 500 mesh, 1000 mesh, and it can also remove water-soluble impurities, heavy metals and amino acids, so it is not necessarily that the pearl powder ground by the ancient method is not fine enough.
