Guoluo Prefecture is located in the southeast of Qinghai Province, bordering Gannan and Huangnan in the east, Aba Autonomous Prefecture and Ganzi Prefecture in the south, Yushu Prefecture in the west, Haixi Prefecture and Hainan Prefecture in the north, and is located between Bayankala in the hinterland of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and Qingshan in Anima. It has a total area of 76,000 square kilometers and an average elevation of more than 4,200 meters.
The climate in Guoluo Prefecture is harsh, cold and oxygen-deficient. The atmospheric oxygen content is only 60% of the sea level. The annual average precipitation is 400 to 700 mm, and the annual average temperature is MINUS 4 degrees Celsius. There is no absolute frost-free period throughout the year.
