Legend of Fox Fairy in China's Ancient Books

In folklore, da ji was a fox, and the Shang Dynasty perished because of her. What was da ji like in history? Is it really da ji's fault that Shang Dynasty perished? Is it really a "woman's curse"?

Da ji was the favorite of Shang Zhouwang, the last monarch of Shang Dynasty in China. According to Records of Historical Records, da ji is the daughter of the Soviet vassal and a stunning beauty. When he conquered the Su tribe, he was brought into the palace by drunkards, and he was honored as the imperial concubine, and he was extravagant. Zhou Wang was defeated by Zhou Wuwang and finally fled to Lutai to set himself on fire. Da ji hanged himself, too.

According to the records of the gods, da ji was a thousand-year-old fox, who was sent by Nu Wa Empress to bewitch Zhou Wang and make the Shang Dynasty perish. When the Zhou people destroyed the Shang Dynasty and killed da ji, even the executioner was fascinated by his beauty, so he couldn't bear to do it and was willing to die for him. Many unofficial history described da ji as a femme fatale, the chief culprit of eternal lewdness and a heinous sinner.

In fact, the demise of Shang and Zhou dynasties is an inevitable trend of historical development, and it is by no means caused by a weak woman. In the Spring and Autumn Period, Zhou Wang's crime was limited to "remonstrating death". By the Warring States period, Bigan's death became vivid. Qu Yuan said that he was drowned, while the public servant in Lv Buwei said that he died of his heart.

By the time Sima Qian wrote Historical Records in the Han Dynasty, there had been a more vivid interpretation, saying that Zhou Wang cut open his heart to satisfy da ji's curiosity and wanted to see if the heart of a "saint" was 7.

According to their personal likes and dislikes, later novelists processed and deduced one after another, and gradually moved away from the historical truth. Da ji's image has become more and more hateful because of the embellishment of later novelists. From the sentence "Listen to Women's Words" in Shangshu to "da ji was in favor, so he died of yin than glue" in Guoyu, and then to "Wang was in chaos, drowned in wine, and da ji was in power, and the rewards and punishments were unreasonable" in Lv Chunqiu.

Later, after the interpretation of folk novelists, the image became worse and worse, until the later Romance of the Gods reached its peak, and the charge of "femme fatale" was added to da ji's head, which was simply unfair in history.
