"Epang Palace Fu" first describes a magnificent palace image, followed by "guarding the pawn and calling for trust in the valley; The Chu people are on fire, poor scorched earth. " All the glory turned to fly ash. "Epang Palace Fu" not only advised feudal rulers not to be extravagant, but also paid more attention to the cruel impression of Xiang Yu in people's hearts.
Xiang Yu's criticism in later generations is not so good or bad, but history should respect objective facts, so it is necessary to clarify it. Xiang Yu has been burning Epang Palace for thousands of years, but in fact, the Epang Palace project is very big, and it has not been completed in Qin Sanshi. In other words, Epang Palace is an unfinished building, and the whole project has just begun. Xiang Yu can only burn air if he wants to burn it.
Modern archaeological discoveries have also proved this point. If Epang Palace is really completely burned down as in Epang Palace Fu, it will inevitably leave a lot of braised soil, and may be accompanied by a lot of plant ash. However, in the old site of Epang Palace, experts only found a small amount of braised soil. This archaeological discovery is enough to prove that Epang Palace was destroyed by the war, but it was not burned on a planned scale.
Some people may think that this is Tai Shigong's mistake, but in fact, it is clearly recorded in the history books that Xiang Yu did not burn Epang Palace, which is consistent with archaeological findings. First, look at the record in Historical Records of Qin Shihuang: "Epang Palace was not built first ..." In Hu Hai, Qin Ershi, Epang Palace was still under construction: "Epang Palace was built again ..."
Three months after Epang Palace was rebuilt, the vigorous "Daze Township Uprising" broke out, and various uprisings followed. The Qin dynasty was so busy that it could no longer spend a lot of manpower and material resources on the unfinished Epang Palace.
After Xiang Yu invaded Xianyang, he did burn Qin Gong, and the fire burned for three months. This palace is Xianyang Palace. Because of archaeological discoveries, there is a lot of braised soil in the old site of Xianyang Palace. In Records of the Historian Xiang Yu's Biography, it is recorded in this way: "Qin Gong will not be extinguished until March." Tu Mu may have subconsciously thought of Epang Palace in Qin Gong when he was reading Shiji, but he didn't notice the records in Shiji Qin Shihuang's Biography.
